1. What is Peters Procedures? Peters Procedures is a K-12 system created to cultivate and transform student behaviors into  socially cultured and character-rich anchors.  We achieve this by embedding universally appreciated core social and academic foundational skills of focus, personal responsibility, integrity and good ol’ fashioned manners into common classroom routines and Procedures.

2. What is the philosophy behind Peters Procedures? Every child wants to be successful, yet many don’t have the skill set.  We believe once these children are taught the skills to achieve success they will not only meet the expectation, but exceed it.   Peters Procedures teaches them “the how” and allows for “real world” practice and reinforcement through daily “teachable moments” and peer accountability.

3. How did Peters Procedures begin? Out of pure desperation! As a teacher, Genevieve was deeply troubled at how the lack of academic ability went hand in hand with the lack of respect and acceptable social skills. She found that the students that did well academically and socially in class were the ones that came to school equipped with the critical foundational skills of focus, personal responsibility and manners, however too few.  Genevieve knew she had to do something to make sure all children were given the opportunity to learn and practice these key foundational skills in a meaningful, effective way.

4. How does Peters Procedures work? Teachers are trained on a 3 part system.   (1) The Procedures - 25 - 40 depending on the grade level (2) a No-Nonsense accountability plan reinforcing cause and effect consequences (3) Leadership through Democracy giving ownership to the children with daily real world practice of leadership, responsibility and teamwork.

5. How long does it take to learn Peters Procedures? Teacher training is 3 days; student classroom training is one week.  Onsite support is 1 month with monthly followups for 3 years.  With a full school or district implementation there is no need for a full training again.  This is because the entire school/district operates on the same procedures, common language school by school, classroom by classroom - year after year – only the incoming students (K/6/9), will need training as incoming students.  Peters Procedures provides comprehensive new teacher training, refinement and comprehensive teacher by teacher follow-up support for the remaining 3 years via on-site visits, support circles, email exchanges and online teacher forums.

6. What if, once I’m trained, I fall back into my old ineffective habits? Peters Procedures provides the common language taught and reinforced by all teachers, students and support staff throughout the school/district.  The high standard behaviors become so automatic that once you and the children learn the Procedures the momentum is so strong and positive that it actually becomes more work to go back to your old, ineffective ways.  Besides with a grade level team of approximately 5 other teachers using the same common Procedures and language, the support will be formidable.

7. What if the students don’t follow Peters Procedures? Students want to be successful. When they learn and start following the Procedures, they quickly see the benefits of more freedom and privileges in a structured, safe environment and begin to recognize that the Procedures help them achieve this success.  Since the Procedures are taught and reinforced by the students as well, they not only follow them, they help each other maintain the system peer to peer.  If they need more reinforcement the No-Nonsense accountability plan creates additional motivation.

8. Can I use Peters Procedures at home? Absolutely! There is a parent-training component that is essential and extremely valuable to our students’ families.

9. Is there a Peters Procedures book? Peters Procedures chronicles the birth of the program to the implementation and success at a various schools.  Due out in the Fall of 11” It’s a page-turner!

10. How can I get Peters Procedures at my school?
